100 % Baby Alpaca — Hand-Painted These yarns have had a long journey. Sheared in Peru, the fiber is 100% baby alpaca (the finest alpaca fiber commercially available), which is spun in Bradford, England, an area with a centuries-long history in the manufacture of wool, yarn and textiles. Baby alpaca is lustrous and silky, warmer than wool, and hypoallergenic because it has no lanolin. It is soft enough to be worn next to the skin. This yarn is a 4-ply fingering/sockweight with a very soft hand and a lovely drape. It is suitable for scarves, hats, shawls and lighter-weight sweaters. Gauge is 8-9 sts/in on a US 2.
